A trio of both current and former Glaswegians was elected to the Montana Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame on July 30 in Great Falls. Paul Barta, John LaBonty, and Rollie Sullivan were among the Hall’s five-man class of 2015; each received a commemorative plaque celebrating his long-term commitment to the state’s youth athletics. Glasgow coaching great John LaBonty and four others will be inducted this summer into the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Among the others is Paul Barta, who coached five years at GHS in the 1980s. LaBonty was a head mentor for 28 of his 36 years coaching, the last 34 years at Glasgow. The Glasgow Scotties track and field team held an impromptu meet at Glasgow on Monday after their previously scheduled meet at Cut Bank was canceled due to snow. Dear Editor, On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, the Ronan Speech and Debate Team had the honor of competing at the State B/C Speech, Drama and Debate Tournament hosted by Glasgow High School. We were repeatedly impressed by the hospitality shown to us by the staff and volunteers at the Glasgow schools and throughout the community of Glasgow. Clearing her final high jump gave Megan Dailey not only the event state title, but also her Scottie girls a spot on the podium. Starting the day with the 3,200-meter run, the Scottie girls tallied 18 points to jump start their 164-point domination of the Northern B Divisional meet on Saturday in Glasgow. The Glasgow girls scored 216 points, 82 tallies in front of second-place Plentywood, followed by Malta (96), Wolf Point (49), Poplar (10) and Harlem (2). Hundreds of athletes, coaches, parents and fans traversed the Scottie track on Saturday in the slowest lap in Top Ten history. But It was also one of the most important. The lap was honoring long-time Scottie track coach Bob Farrell, who died in April. With the district tournament coming quickly, the Scotties are still searching for the right mixture.
