  • Turkey Day Weather For The Birds?

    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Nov 26, 2014

Family, food and football are American traditions for Thanksgiving. As residents may be heading out of town for festivities this year, they might want to make extra preparations as two storms make their way through the state this week. According to AAA, more than 46 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving dinner this year and with the average price of gas dropping below the $3 a gallon mark, it's probably a safe bet that holiday travel will increase this year. AAA stated that this will be the highest travel volume for the holiday since...

    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Nov 26, 2014

You might see students from Glasgow High School, Soroptimist members and other various members of businesses and organizations standing in the intersections downtown Glasgow on Friday, Dec. 5. It's a 50-year tradition for the community to rally for funds to help provide clothing for children. The tradition started with the Glasgow Jaycees, a fraternal organization that accepted men between the ages of 21-35. The group had various projects throughout the year that helped the community. In 1960... Full story

  • Same-Sex Marriage Allowed; No Takers Here Yet

    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Nov 26, 2014

It was a day for Montana's history books. While the topic is still controversial and will likely face another battle in court, U.S. District Court of Montana Judge Brian Morris ruled in favor of four same-sex couples who were suing for marriage on Wednesday, Nov. 19. His decision led to several marriages in the last week of same sex couples celebrating the decision. Yellowstone County saw some of the first marriages in the state for same-sex couples. It also had some controversy as a few clerks refused to marry couples, but they were told by a...

  • Glasgow PD Wants More Body Cams

    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Nov 26, 2014

With altercations involving police and civilians making headlines nationwide, perhaps Glasgow is a few steps ahead of the curve. Glasgow Police Chief Bruce Barstad explained that while the department has been using cameras for several years, they have also embraced body cams. Car cameras have been used for years here. They can help during traffic stops and other situations, but often the quality of video and audio can leave something to be desired. The department has also used other versions of a body cam in the last three or four years, along...

  • What's Old Is New Again!

    Gwen Cornwell, Remember When|Nov 26, 2014

I've heard comments from many that remember the huge Christmas tree that stood at an intersection of 2nd Avenue South. As I remember, it was located in the intersection of the street where Markle's Hardware, Gaffany's, Soma-dis, and Nel's Kent are currently located. I am not sure what the businesses were at that time, maybe Woolworth's, Adrian's, the old Smith Clinic and Newton Motors. Just a guess. Has it really been 20 years since we have had a tree that graced 2nd Avenue during the holidays?... Full story

  • Yellow Snow In The Wild West

    Virgil Vaupel, Thanks For Listening|Nov 26, 2014

I had to remove the alternator from the Versatile tractor last week in near cold weather (9 below one day and 3 below the next.) The tractor was outside and no windbreak in sight. It took six and a half hours in two days to perform a task that normally could be done in 20 minutes.  See, the bottom bolt was so rusted in that nothing could move it. Finally after using a full can of Sea Foam Deep Creep Rust Buster and working the bolt back and forth, forth and back, a sixteenth of an inch at a time I got it to move. But then when I had pounded...

  • Montana's Thanksgiving Bounty

    M. Jeff Hagener, My Opinion|Nov 26, 2014

This Thanksgiving, as you're gathered around the table about to give thanks – for good health, for loving friends and family members, for our soldiers overseas – consider adding another blessing: for living in a state so rich in wildlife. This is a state wild enough to have wolverines, after all, not to mention lynx, grizzly bears, mountain goats, and arctic grayling. Few places on earth offer such diversity of both coldwater and warmwater fisheries – from cutthroat trout in cold mountain lakes to channel catfish in warm rivers. As for...

  • Democratic Demolition Derby

    Jim Elliott, My Opinion|Nov 26, 2014

Democrats have had big losses across America this past election, and they are once again puzzled and confused because they believe that “people are voting against their own self interests.” Is it possible that Democrats themselves are not very good at understanding the self-interests of others? The Democrat’s perception of the issue is that Democrats stand for everything that Americans want and need; lower taxes on individuals, universal and inexpensive public education, social programs for the old, poor, and infirm, etc., and that the...
