Glasgow recognized its local veterans in the annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the Civic Center on Tuesday, Nov. 11. In tribute to the upcoming 40th anniversary marking the end of the Vietnam War in April 1975, Vietnam veterans were the focal point of honor in this year's ceremony. The Memorial Day celebration in Fort Peck this year brought hundreds together to hear various speakers at the podium. Winter advisory warnings and watches went out for Northeast Montana over the past weekend – and they proved to be correct. The National Weather Service in Glasgow forecast accumulations in Valley County ranging from 4 to 6 inches of snow. That prediction came pretty close to what was reported as the snow finally stopped falling Monday morning. The Glasgow High School Educational Trust is honored to announce a donation of $10,000 in memory of Aaron Danne “Chappy” Chatten. In making the gift, Lacey Chatten Copenhaver said it included memorials given in Aaron’s name as well as proceeds from the Aaron “Chappy” Chatten Memorial Softball Tournament, which has been held each July for the past four summers. “Aaron’s passion was community service,” Copenhaver said. “And the GHS Trust memorial will help others for a long time.” A 2002 graduate of Glasgow High School, Aaron continued his educa...
A Valley County teen died in a car accident east of Nashua on Saturday. His 11-year-old brother, a passenger, was able to get out, but the 17-year-old was unable to get his seat belt off in time and drowned in an irrigation ditch, investigators said. The victim was identified as Brett Norman of Frazer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Church in Glasgow. Interment will be on the family farm near Lustre. There have been two more state bison meetings since last I wrote. One was July 14 and 15 in Billings to propose testable alternatives for an Environmental Impact Statement, and one was Oct. 9 in Great Falls to develop those alternatives. There was a lot to be depressed about at those meetings. A depressing number of people travelled from western Montana to Billings to say they want a herd of bison, and they want to keep it in our backyards. Ranchers are busy rounding up their cattle and getting the calves ready for market. Roundup can take from a few days to several weeks. One of the most impressive sights is when the cattle are being gathered up and moved to corrals on the Wittmayer Grazing Association. Watching association members on horseback urging the cattle on evokes thoughts of long ago roundups. On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, our beloved son, husband, father and friend, Cole Derick Hammond, 31, left this earth too soon. What the Glasgow football team won was the heart of an invigorated Scottie Nation. What they lost was their first game of the season and a shot at the state Class B championship that many considered so possible. The season ended for the Nashua Lady Porcupines last Friday at the Glasgow Scottie gym when they lost to the Bainville Bulldogs in the 2014 Volleyball Divisional Tournament. The Porcupines lost in the first round to the R&L Fusion in three very hard fought games. The match went to four games against Bainville. I recently received a Glasgow Courier on my front step here in Gig Harbor, Wash., and was puzzled as to why I received it.
