On Oct. 30, hundreds of middle and high school student council members from across Montana converged in Glasgow for the 2016 Montana Association of Student Council Conference. The Glasgow Soroptimists, along with the Montana Army National Guard and the Glasgow High School Student Council, announce the annual Block of Bucks collection day on Friday, Dec. 2, and family shopping day on Saturday, Dec. 3. The depression days have been appropriately named, the “Dirty Thirties” - dust storms often times obscuring the very sun in the sky – fierce winds blowing the thistles against the barbed wire fences, which in turn caught much of the moving topsoil which had quite possibly traveled for many miles before coming to rest in the form of grey banks of dust. Helen (Seeley) Lamey, age 93, formerly of Glasgow, Mont., Havre, Mont., and Mesa, Ariz., passed away on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, Mont. Nan (Bernstein) Klassen died on Thursday, Oct. 6 2016, t Spring Creek Inn, a memory care facility in Bozeman, Mont. After a long decline from dementia, she passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning. She was 89. In lieu of a funeral or memorial service, the family intends to hold a celebration of Nan’s life next summer at the family home in Bigfork, Mont. Cremation has taken place. The District Tournament held Oct. 28 and 29 did not start exactly as the Scotties had hoped. With a loss to Malta right off the bat, GHS was forced to re-group before playing Poplar later in the day, which they did with a win after three fairly efficient games. The 2016 Scotties played their final game on Scottie Field Oct. 29. After earning the title of conference champs with a win against Malta, the boys were ready for a rematch against the Colstrip Colts. The North Country Mavericks team finished second in the District 3-C Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 28. The all-day event proved to be a test of the Maverick's stamina, as they ended up playing in every match of the tournament.
