In the first full weekend of conference play, the Glasgow boys' basketball team fell just short of completing a weekend sweep, beating Plentywood handily on Saturday a day after losing in overtime to Wolf Point.
The Scotties defense held up and the scoring improved as the team got into a regular practice schedule after slumping in their game against Scobey during the break.
Senior wing Jon Page had another stellar weekend, scoring 24 against Wolf Point and another 22 against Plentywood.
His scoring went a long way in the Scotties game at Wolf Point on Friday.
The Scotties led by one point at halftime and stretched the lead to 34-30 after three quarters but couldn't hold off the Wolves as they surged late.
Despite seven points from Page and four a piece from senior bigs Drew Croy and Patrick Billingsley in the fourth quarter, the Scotties were outscored 19-15 in the final frame as the game went to overtime. Neither side broke loose in the extra session but after a two from sophomore guard Chaz Gordon, Glasgow was only able to get one more point, on a free throw from Page.
Wolf Point captain Walker Dewitt closed the game with three free throws for the Wolves, netting them their third conference win and keeping them atop the standings.
Page was the leading scorer, while Croy finished with 10 points and Billingsley finished with eight points. Gordon and Tristan Schmitt each had four points.
The Scotties rebounded on Saturday with a 67-41 drubbing of Plentywood, to move to 2-1 in conference and 5-3 overall.
The team jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter, finishing the frame with a 21-7 lead. The Scotties outscored the Wildcats in every quarter on route to the victory.
Page wasn't the only impressive player in the game. His 22 points led the team, but the Scotties got big contributions from the rest of the team. Croy finished with 15 points, Schmitt and Dylan Hughes finished with eight points and Billingsley finished with six points. Gordon had four points and Brayan Larson and Derek Hopkins each finished the night with two points.
The Scotties are at home on Friday to face Malta (3-0, 5-2) and on the road Saturday against Poplar (1-3, 2-5). The Mustangs are currently atop the league with Wolf Point, but the Scotties could pull into a tie for second with a win Friday.
