County officials look ahead to election in November

2010 is an election year, and terms are up for nearly every Valley County official. When filing opens at the clerk and recorder's office on Jan. 14, there will be a virtual parade, because all of them are aiming for re-election.

A couple of officials will be running for the first time. Shelly Bryan was appointed clerk of court to fill the unexpired four-year term of Melissa Greenhagen, and must be elected to serve the last two years. County Attorney Nick Murnion was appointed to fill the remainder  of Ken Oster's term when Oster retired last year. This is Murnion's first Valley County election, but he was elected county attorney several times in Garfield County.
Public Administrator Dan Taylor will run for a second term.

Two people will be seeking their third term in office: County Treasurer Jenny Reinhardt and Sheriff Glen Meier. County Commissioner Dave Reinhardt will run for his third six-year term. The other two commissioners are the only county officials not up for election this year.

Clerk and Recorder Lynne Nyquist and Justice of the Peace Linda Hartsock first came to office in 1998 and they are both looking for a fourth term.
Filing season runs through March 15. Valley County voted in 2006 to make county elections non-partisan. The primary is June 8 and the general election is Nov. 2.
