The Glasgow wrestling team got back to business this weekend at the Havre Mixer, splitting its duels with Class A programs Lewistown and the host Blue Ponies.
The big matchup between No. 1 teams ended up on the short end for the Scotties. After besting Class A No. 1 Havre in Glasgow on Dec. 22, the Blue Ponies held form on their home mats beating the Scotties 52-24.
For the second time this season top-ranked Class B heavyweight Tyrell Shumway beat top-ranked Class A heavyweight Mitch Schattgen, this time winning an 8-3 decision.
At the low weights the Scotties forfeited the 105-pound weight class and lost the 112-pound match by default when Jacob Bethea left with an injury in the second period. Zeb Shawver and Braden Hallock each won by decision over a ranked opponent. Shawver bested the No. 6 112-pounder Zach Smith, who moved up to 119 for the match. Hallock, wrestling at 125 pounds, beat the No. 2 Class A wrestler Brett Normandy by a 4-2 decision. Luke Zeiger won 130 pounds by forfeit.
In the middle weights Havre pulled out its big guns to out point Glasgow. Havre recorded pins at 135-, 140-, 145-, 160-, 171- and 189-pounds, including a major decision at 152-pounds by No. 2 ranked Kent Pattison over Tucker Holstein.
The only other win the Scotties received was a pin by Parker Miller at 215 pounds. Miller pinned Havre's Jared Ruffofsky in 3:16.
The Scotties fared much better in the duel with Lewistown, opening the tournament by demolishing the Eagles 51-15.
Shawver and Hallock scored pins at 119- and 125-pounds. Simon Helland earned a 8-5 decision at 135-pounds over Lewistown's Dexter Trask.
Though the Scotties lost to some of the Eagles' better wrestlers at 130-, 140-, 145- and 171-pounds, a 24-second pin by Tucker Holstein at 152-pounds and a 1:43 pin by Robbie Henville at 189-pounds gave the Scotties more than enough for the victory.
This weekend the team travels west for the Cut Bank Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
