New Coaches Lead Swim Team Into Season

The Glasgow Kiwanis' Swim Team will dive into the season on Saturday, June 9, at the Chinook Invitational.

The team has two new coaches this year as college students Matthew Dangleis and Alexandra Leuchars have taken over this season.

Dangleis, 20, and Leuchars, 21, both compete on the Whitworth College Swim Team in Spokane, Wash. Even at their young age, they have several years of experience both as a swimmer and a coach between them and hope to lead this year's team to new heights.

"My goal for the season is to create a positive environment in Glasgow . . . I want my athletes to have time drops, I want them to hit their goals but also creating that responsibility they have . . . to come to practice," said Dangleis.

"[The goal is to teach] them some of the basic components of respect and responsibility in the pool . . . so they can apply it to other areas of their life," added Leuchars.

Leuchars has been competitively swimming since she was 12 years old and has coached a team in her home town of Sacramento. Meanwhile, Dangleis has competitively swam since he was 16 and has coached his own home town team in Las Vegas. He was also a swim instructor for four years in Las Vegas.

Their coaching experience is limited by their young age but are excited to work with the swimmers in hopes of reaching both the team goals and the individual swimmers' goals.
