Local Duos Place In Glasgow Raquetball Tournament

FOR THE COURIER
Published: Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

The Ninth Annual Glasgow Doubles Racquetball Tournament was held on March 10th at the Civic Center.

There were 10 teams including players from Dickinson, Glendive, Great Falls and Bozeman.  The Tournament was a double elimination tournament.

It was deemed a success by all who attended.

It also marked the first time that the out of town players numbered as many as the local club, which created some very competitive play, especially from the MSU team.

Taking first place and the $500 prize money, was the undefeated team of Ernesto Ruiz (a 16 year old from Bolivia) and David Irving.

Taking the second place spot was MSU captain/coach Mat Majxner and Scott Cook which earned them $200.

In third place was Jason Hopfauf and Stan Ozark splitting  $100.

The prize money was donated by the following: Leroy Kuntz of Missing Link Gravel, Knierim Law Firm and the Irving Law Firm.

Many other donations were received including coolers, t-shirts, and a fishing pole from Pamida, hats from Ezzies, hats and mugs from the Burlington Northern Railroad, lights and a vehicle backup security system from Hi-Line Security, gloves, hats and bags from the Gear Box (State Representative, Jim Kuntz), water donated by Nemont Beverages and Scottie Car Wash, hard hats by Braden Pehlke, and the racquetballs were donated by The Montana Racquetball Association.

The tournament brackets were prepared by Glasgow Distributors.

The donations, prize money, food and refreshments were appreciated by all.

Next year’s tournament promises to be a great 10-year anniversary party with many players committed to play already.
