Football beats Choteau 41-8, more in Sports.

For the second time this season, the Glasgow football team rebounded from a loss to destroy Choteau at home, this time 41-8.

The Scotties jumped all over Choteau in the first half, mounting an insurmountable lead by halfway through the second quarter.

Within the first three minutes the Scotties got on the board. Senior running back Kirk Capdeville ran up the right side of the field 40 yards for the first touchdown of the game.

Just a few minutes later Dylan Hughes would make a run of his own. Dropping back to pass, the Bulldog defense ran into protection, not expecting Hughes to take off running for 41 yards up the middle to score the second touchdown of the day.

In the second quarter, the Scotties got two touchdowns from Tucker Holstein, who was filling in for Aaron Hartsock after the senior again went down with an injury. Holstein ran in scores from 12 and four yards out, making the game seem yet again like an easy win for the Scotties.

Yet the Bulldogs weren't done fighting. Just before the half ended, Choteau's Adam DeBruycker caught a bubble screen and shimmied his way up the sideline 80 yards for a touchdown, to bring the score to 34-8 after a two-point conversion.

The Scotties added an insurance touchdown in the second half, as Hughes hit Drew Croy for his second touchdown of the game, ending the scoring for the game at 41-8.

The defense did its job in this game, holding Choteau to only 25 rushing yards in the game.

“We came out and the kids were real hungry,” head coach Dan Dale said. “They came out with a lot of confidence. We talked about execution and being consistent and just doing your job.”

The Scotties were much more focused this week as they seemed to get back to the basics on defense.,

“In the first half the guys came out and did some great stuff,” Dale said. “They still played hard, our defense had a solid game from top to bottom.”

The only real issue the Scotties faced was penalties, as the Scotties piled up the yellow flags in the second half, something that hampered their ability to remain efficient on the offensive end.

“It's just mental stuff. Lining up in the neutral zone, we have a big play and we get a block in the back, stuff normally we don't do,” Dale said. “Just mentally we relaxed and fortunately it didn't cost us. But we didn't have nearly the production we should have in the second half.”

The Scotties will need to clean up their mistakes as the competition only gets tougher this week. Glasgow will take on Florence-Carlton at home on Saturday, in the state quarterfinal.

The Falcons are fresh off a rout of their own, beating Eureka 47-8 on the road, after finishing 7-2 in the regular season. They feature a high-flying offensive duo of quarterback Spencer Burns and receiver/back Corbin Newbarry. The two hooked up for three touchdowns in the rout of Eureka, while both also ran for touchdowns.

While the Falcons feature some big play potential, the Scotties feel they can hold their own and will need to at Scottie Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

“We just have to come out and do what we've been saying all year,” Dale said. “Take care of business and do your job.”
