Football comes up short against Plentywood in OT, earns rematch with Choteau in playoffs

The Glasgow football team was caught off guard in the last game of the regular season by a feisty Plentywood team on Friday night, losing in overtime 36-35.

The Wildcats jumped out early on their senior night, getting an early 12-0 lead before the Scotties were able to collect themselves.

The Scotties eventually crawled back into the game, jumping back on top 15-12, then eventually 28-15, before the Wildcats were able to capitalize on Glasgow's mistakes.

First the Scotties fumbled the ball deep in their own zone, giving Plentywood  a short field for a touchdown drive. The Wildcats would eventually tie the game, sending it to overtime.

In overtime the Scotties scored on their first play, opting for the extra point and giving their defense a chance to win the game.

But Plentywood also scored and went for the win with a two-point conversion, winning the game, 36-35.

“It's a lot of little things that worked against us,” head coach Dan Dale said. “The kids fought hard, it was a playoff-type atmosphere. I had fun, I enjoyed the game. I would have much rather won, but I saw a lot of good things out of our kids.”

The Scotties were down two key players, seniors Aaron Hartsock and Zach Remus, which affected both sides of the ball. Hartsock, was out with a leg injury from the win against Harlem and Remus was sick, though both are expected to play this week.

After the game it was announced that the Scotties would be matched up with Choteau, a team the Scotties beat handily earlier in the season, 47-8. However, this time Dale doesn't believe the game will be that easy.

“You have to have a short memory,” Dale said. “You have to know this is the playoffs. You've got to bring your best, they're going to bring their best. It's going to be a knockdown, drag-out fight. I expect it to be a close game, I do not expect it to be a blow out. But I expect our kids to be on top at the end.”

The Scotties have been hampered this week with a bug that has been going through the locker room. A few guys haven't practiced this week due to flu-like symptoms and the cold, wet weather this week hasn't helped the situation.

“I hear we're not the only team struggling with it,” Dale said. “Some schools have shut down. We're still open, we're going to practice. We've got to practice in the weather that we're going to play in.”

The weather Saturday isn't expected to be much better. This weekend is supposed to be cool and a chance of rain could make the playing conditions rough. But, the weather won't be getting any better as the Scotties continue in the playoffs.

“I feel bad for our kids, but we've got to get ready,” Dale said.

Choteau finished the season with a 5-3 record and is looking for revenge from earlier in the season. Saturday's game starts at 1 p.m. at Scottie Field.
