Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team Qualifies 29 For State

| Of the 34 swimmers that went to divisionals in Lewistown for the Glasgow Kiwanis swim team, 29 qualified to compete at the state tournament this weekend in Conrad. Of the five who didn't qualify individually, most will find themselves helping out on relays. The team placed fifth at the meet, placing it in Class A for the state tournament, which starts this Saturday. Every swimmer that placed 12th or higher at divisionals qualified for state. Rachael Zeiger posted the only individual win for Glasgow at the meet, winning the intermediate girls 100 meter backstroke in a time of 1 minute, 24.35 seconds. She also qualified for state in the 100 butterfly, coming in third with a time of 1:18.90 and the 50 freestyle, placing sixth with a time of 31.65. Luke Zeiger also had a big day at the pool, placing in three events for state. Luke finished second in the senior boys' 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. Andy Wageman qualified in the 100 breaststroke by finishing fourth with a time of 1:45.75. Andy also qualified in the 100 backstroke and the 400 freestyle. Walter Belleau, who along with Emily Braaten was honored as a graduating senior by the team at the meet, qualified for the 400 freestyle by placing sixth with a time of 5:49.09. Walter also qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Emily Braaten finished sixth in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and 11th in the 50 butterfly to qualify for all three events for the senior girls. Devyn Bell finished third in the senior girls' 400 freestyle with a time of 5:03.51, fifth in the 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 100 freestyle. Danielle Belleau qualified in the 200 IM and the 400 freestyle, while Kristina Rauscher will be racing this weekend in the 100 backstroke after a tenth place finish on Sunday. The intermediate group will have a ton of kids going to state. Along with Rachael Zeiger, Laurel Wageman, Megan Rasmusan and Alliea Nyenhuis also qualified for three events each. Laurel qualified in the 100 breaststroke, 50 and 100 freestyles. She finished second in the 100 breaststroke in Lewistown, finishing in a time of 1:25. Megan finished fourth in the 100 backstroke, sixth in the 50 butterfly and eighth in the 200 IM. Alliea will race in the 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, finishing 10th in each event last weekend. Harley Eliason qualified for three events for the intermediate boys. Harley finished sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:46.37, and qualified in the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Logan Gunderson and Ben Rauscher each quailified for three events for the junior boys while Tony Kaiser qualified for one for the boys. Ben placed sixth in the 50 and 100 freestyles and 50 butterfly and Logan qualified for the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 50 backstroke, finishing the backstroke in a time of 53.73. Tony finished 11th in the 100 freestyle to help load up the event for the Glasgow team. Khloe Krumweide, Mayson Hudyma and Andrea Hansen will represent the junior girls at the state tournament, each girl qualifying three events. Khloe had a great meet, finishing third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:08.63, fourth in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 40.58 and fifth in the 200 IM in a time of 3:07.71 to earn the Glasgow team 27 points at the meet. Mayson also had a big meet, qualifying for the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 50 backstroke. Andrea qualified for the 200 IM, 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke. Jordan Kulczyk, Deann Rasmusan, Katie Kaiser, Cara Goeke and Mykenzie Eliason all qualified for three events for the midget girls while Merrick Eliason will represent the midget boys in the 50 butterfly. Keely McNew will be an alternate in the midget girls' 50 backstroke and Jack Johnsrud will be an alternate in the midget boys' 50 breastroke. Qualifying for the bantams were Ike Braaten, Britt Fairclough, Aleah Goeke, Salomon Hansen and Tim Wageman. At state, the Glasgow team will be up against some tough competition, especially from Chinook and Columbia Falls. At divisionals, Glasgow finished only a few points behind Chinook and the team could have a chance to make a run at first place in Class A. Click Here To See More Stories Like This |
