| The girls basketball divisional playoffs start this weekend and a few of the area teams have a good chance at getting to the state tournament next weekend. The Glasgow girls, who have the second seed out of District 2B after last weekend's tournament, will take on Cut Bank in the first round of the Northern B Divisionals, a team that finished the season with a losing record, but still managed to grab the third seed in the tournament. Malta and Wolf Point, the two toughest teams from 2B, are on the other side of the bracket. The only roadblock the Scotties have on the road to Great Falls is a big one. Fairfield, the top seed out of District 1B, has only dropped one game this season and would potentially match up with the Scotties in the semifinals. The Eagles' only loss came against Three Forks early in the season, but they also had a close escape against Wolf Point to start the season.Should the Scotties stumble early, they still have a chance to work their way into State. The North will be sending three teams to State this season, making the winner of the loser's bracket an invitee to Great Falls. Over in the Eastern C, Valley County has two representatives in the tournament. Opheim, who grabbed the second seed in District 3C, and Hinsdale, who grabbed the fourth seed, are on the same side of the bracket this weekend. Opheim opens against Circle, the three seed from 2C. The Lady Cats did well for themselves this season, but slipped in the conference tournament. Hinsdale will face undefeated Fairview in the opening round, the winner of which will play the winner of Opheim/Circle. Both tournaments start at 1 p.m. on Thursday, with the Northern B taking place in Choteau and the Eastern C in Wolf Point. Click Here To See More Stories Like This |
