Glasgow Volleyball Finishes Seventh In Choteau

Playing against some of the top teams in the state, the Glasgow volleyball team more than held its own this weekend at the Choteau Invitational.
The Scotties finished seventh at the tournament, falling just a few points shy of qualifying for the six-team trophy round. However, even though they fell short of the top few spots, the Scotties beat or split with each of the teams in the top six.
“It was extraordinary,” head coach Lori Dailey said. “It was just two costly mental games that kept us out of playing (in the trophy round).”
The girls played in 12 matches, a total of 24 sets at the tournament, facing off with some of the top teams in Class B, including Three Forks, Manhattan Christian, Shelby, Missoula Loyola, Fairfield and host team Choteau.
“It was really rewarding,” Dailey said. “Man they played good.”
The passing and defense were what powered the team, with the Scotties crisp in each aspect. The front row was also beginning to show signs of dominance, something that will be needed this season after the top three outside hitters graduated.
“The front row was very aggressive,” Dailey said. “We had a couple of lulls where we stopped swinging as hard as I would have liked. So, I called a time out and they went back out and changed it. This is a team that is very coachable.”
Glasgow is back on the road again this weekend to compete at the Chinook Invitational. Host team Chinook went to the second round at the Malta Invitational last weekend, beating Rocky Boy and falling to Malta in the second round.
With many of the Hi-Line's toughest teams expected to show up to the tournament, Dailey said she was proud of the way the team played its opening weekend.
“It was very encouraging,” Dailey said.
