Dr. Hazel Louise (Anderson) McGaffey

Dr. Hazel Louise (Anderson) McGaffey, 88, retired prominent pathologist of Priest River, Idaho, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Sandpoint, Idaho.

She was born Aug. 21, 1924, on her pioneer parent's farm near Opheim, some of the last homesteading done in the lower 48 states. She was the second oldest of four children. As children they recounted playing with buffalo skulls and bones found on the prairies about their homestead.

She attended Wild Rose Country School with combined eight grades. She rode horseback cross country to attend, even during harsh winters. She finished high school in Opheim, boarding in town during the week. Roads were frequently impassable during winter. Finishing high school in 1941, she graduated from Medical Secretarial School at Northern Montana College at Havre.

FULL OBITUARIES APPEAR IN THE GLASGOW COURIER PRINT EDITION.
