Scottie Softball 0-2 in Season Start

The Scottie softball team dropped their two opening games March 29 at the Colstrip Quad. Glasgow fell 16-8 to Stillwater in their opening game before dropping a 12-0 game to Huntley Project.

The Scotties held tight with Stillwater through three innings before the eventual victors pulled away with a six-run showing in the bottom of the fourth. Glasgow put two runs on the scoreboard in the first inning when Hayden Green singled, sending Tatum Nyquist and Macy Martin across home plate. The Renegades scored three times in the bottom of the inning before Glasgow sent four runners home in the top of the second. Riley Clampitt scored on a passed ball before Berkley Hillman homered and sent Martin and Halle Hunter across the plate.

Stillwater answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Neither team scored in the third and the Renegades kept the Scotties off the board in the fourth before taking a 10-4 lead. Stillwater added another run in the bottom of the fifth.

Glasgow scored twice more in the top of the sixth: Brynn Donaldson scored on a Martin hit and Renegade error, and Martin scored on a Hillman ground out. Stillwater matched the Scotties in the bottom of the inning and Glasgow was shut out in the top of the seventh, ending the game at 16-8, Stillwater.

The Scotties had eight runs on six hits with nine errors while Stillwater put up 16 runs on eight hits and held their errors to one in the game.

Martin pitched two-and-two-thirds innings for the Scotties, giving up 13 runs on six hits with seven errors. Donaldson pitched two-and-one-third innings in relief, allowing three un son two hits with one error. Both pitched three strike outs.

Martin led the Scotties in hits with two with Hunter, Hillman, Green and Clampitt adding one a piece. Hillman had four RBIs for Glasgow and Green had two. Tessa Miller and Martin both had a stolen base.

Glasgow took on Huntley Project next, falling 11-0 after the Red Devils racked up three runs in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth. The Scotties were outhit 6-2 in the tilt and committed four errors to Huntley’s one.

Donaldson pitched three innings, allowing nine runs on five hit with two strike outs. Brynlie Boreson spent one inning in the circle, allowing two runs on one hit. Hunter and Miller each ha a hit for the Scotties.

Glasgow was in Glendive Tuesday to play the Red Devils but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Scotties will play in the Great Falls Central Tournament Friday, April 5, and host the Sidney Eagles Tuesday, April 9, with JV action at 3:30 and varsity at 5 p.m.
