Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Donald Jack Scott

On the evening of Feb. 9, 2024, Donald Jack Scott, age 84, passed away at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont., of natural causes.

Don Scott was born in Glasgow on Dec. 29, 1939. He was the first child and son of Howard and Betty Scott. Don was a brother to Carol, Kenny (surviving), and Dean Scott.

Don married Mary White on Oct. 16, 1965, also of Glasgow and preceding him in death. They were the parents of Kelly Urtso (Greg), the twins, Kevin, preceding him in death, and Kerry Almos (Travis), and Donald Scott (Marc). His grandchildren include Elizabeth, Maddie, Luke, Andrew, and Meghan, and great-grandchildren Hunter, preceding him in death, and her brother Henry.

Don apprenticed with the county surveyor in 1956-57 learning the trade that he was great at and would happily be his career choice throughout life. Don was in the Army and served from 1962-1964. After that, he used his surveying talent on many projects including tunnels (Hells Canyon-Oregon), dams: Orofino, Hungry Horse, Libby, and Hoover dams to name a few, missile silos for the Air Force, and many roads and bridges in several states. He also worked for the Montana Forest Service and Ureco Construction close to Whitefish, Mont., where his children grew up.

When Don was not working, he enjoyed watching sports and playing pool. He was excited but wouldn't see "his Chiefs" win another Super Bowl this year.

His final resting place will be in Glasgow.
