Ice Dawgs Down Billings

Enter Postseason with 15-3 Record

The Ice Dawgs closed out the regular season at home this past weekend with a pair of wins over Billings. Glasgow beat Billings 10-1 Friday for senior night and won 8-2 Saturday.

Glasgow finishes the season with a 15-3 record and 30 points. Miles City, 15-2, in the BSHS East and Bozeman Black, 15-2, in the BSHS West both have 30 points as well but with games left on their schedule. The Dawgs go into the State Tournament as the number two seed in the East.

Lex Fairclough started the scoring onslaught Friday night, on an assist from Aiden Price 4:18 into the game. Billings answered 23 seconds later with what would be their only goal of the game. Zevin Kummerfeldt scored the game winning goal just over a minute later on the power play with an assist from Brody Hansen. Tatum Hansen hit the insurance goal with help from Peyton Smith and Kummerfeldt before assisting on Brody Hansen's power play goal.

Kummerfeldt made it 5-1 with just over three minutes left in the first. The Dawgs went up 6-1 on a goal from Connor Koski, assists Bode Barnett and Charlie Cornwell.

Eli Howland struck just 41 seconds into the second period with help from B. Hansen and Josh Llewellyn. Mason Hunter made it 8-1 off a helper from Dillon Hughes with 3:32 left on the clock before the intermission.

Glasgow kept up the offense in the third period with 29 shots on goal, converting on two of those. Barnett found the back of the net with help from Tavin Boland and Smith. Boland scored the last goal of the game with just over three minutes remaining on the clock.

The Dawgs outshot Billings 37-10 in the win, with goaltender Jacob Potter recording a .900 save percentage. Glasgow went 2-for-5 on their man-advantages while shutting down Billings' seven power plays.

The Dawgs had 26 penalty minutes on their nine infractions. Fairclough, elbowing, first; Price, 2-and-10 head contact, second; T. Hansen, roughing, second; Hughes, roughing, second; Hunter, interference, second; Smith, interference, third; Fairclough, minor, third, and Glasgow bench minor, third, were the calls against the Dawgs.

Glasgow kept up the domination Saturday, scoring six goals in the second period for the win. Barnett lit up the scoreboard in the first with help from Kimber Dulaney before striking 24 seconds into the second period with Smith assisting. B. Hansen made it 3-0. Kummerfeldt scored the next two for Glasgow with Smith assisting on the second. Smith scored the sixth goal with an assist from Boland. Koski made it 7-0 before intermission with a helper from Barnett.

Billings scored first in the third period before Barnett gave Glasgow the seven-goal lead back on a Dawgs' power play. Billings answered with a power play goal of their own with just over a minute-and-a-half to play.

Billings put 68 pucks on goaltender Potter, who notched a .971 save percentage while his teammates had 62 shots on net at the other end of the ice.

Glasgow held their penalties to six with 12 minutes in the box while Billings had four calls against them for eight minutes. The Dawgs were 1-for-4 on the man advantage with Billings converting on 1-of-5 power plays. Smith, interference, first; Hunter, roughing, second; Barnett, tripping, second; Fairclough, interference, second; B. Hansen, tripping, second, and Barnett, minor, third, took involuntary seats for the Dawgs.

The Bantam Ice Dawgs dropped their doubleheader in Havre Saturday, falling 12-2 and 9-2. Carter Holte, assist Breckin Partridge, and Ellery Dedobbeleer scored for Glasgow in the first game with goalie Rivers Sugg turning away 40-of-52 shots for a .769 save percentage. Tay Morehouse and Holte, assist Jack Miller, found the back of the net in game two. Sugg recorded an .833 save percentage, turning away 45 of 54 attempts on his net.

The Bantams return to action Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, in Glasgow when they host the Havre Ice Hawks. The Dawgs take on the Hawks at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

The BSHS State Tournament will be March 1-3 in Billings. A bracket will be available following this weekend's final action.

Glasgow hosts the Girls State Tournament 14U and 19U this Friday through Sunday, Feb. 23-25.
