Gamas Is Class B/C 152 lbs. State Champion

Six Scottie Wrestlers Place at State

The Glasgow wrestling teams brought home six All-State Honors with one State Champion from the MHSA All-Class State Wrestling Tournament in Billings this past weekend.

Khye Gamas went undefeated over the two-day event on his way to the top of the podium. The two-time state placing sophomore avenged his Divisional loss to Huntley Project’s Grady Schmidt in a triple overtime match. Gamas won the tight match by a 2-1 score to bring home his first state wrestling title. He is now the 75th Scottie state champion. Gamas and Cody Kuka, who finished in sixth at 103 lbs., are the 85th and 86th multiple state placers in Glasgow history, with Glasgow boasting 303 state places in their history.

Riley Clampitt made Scottie history with her second place finish at 145 lbs. The sophomore was pinned by now-three-time state champion Gretchen Donally of Huntley Project but became the first state placer and state finalist in Scottie Girls Wrestling four-year history. Clampitt established a Scottie girls record with a season record of 35 wins and seven losses.

Makiya Plummer, a freshman, and William Kirkland, a sophomore, both earned third place finishes at State. Plummer pinned Circle’s Paden Nelson in 2:17 in the third place match at 103 lbs. Kirkland won a 14-6 Major Decision over Chinook’s Walter Schoen to win third place at 160 lbs.

Michael King finished in fourth at 170 lbs. after the junior was pinned by Choteau’s Percy Bechtold. Freshman Cody Kuka was also pinned in his final match, placing sixth at 113 lbs.

The Scottie boys as a team placed fourth out of 44 Class B/C teams. Glasgow scored 98 points, just 5.5 points short of a team trophy. Huntley Project won the team title with 206 points followed by Lincoln County (Eureka), 124, and Conrad, 103.5 points. This year marks the sixth time in seven years the Scottie boys have earned a Top 4 showing at the State Tournament.

The Glasgow girls took 13th place out of 38 Class B/C schools, marking the highest finish for the team in Scottie girls’ wrestling history. The finish accompanied the most points – 31 points – scored by the team in their first four years of competition.
