Scottie Girls Fall to Malta, Defeat Poplar

The Scottie girls basketball team fell 57-43 to the visiting Malta M-ettes Feb. 1 but rebounded to avenge an earlier season loss against the Poplar Indians, winning 56-53 on the road Feb. 2.

Glasgow got on the board first against Malta but the M-ettes quickly took control of the game, leading 17-8 at the end of one. The Scotties trailed 29-16 at the half and 46-27 at the end of three. The Scotties outscored the M-ettes 16-11 in the final eight minutes for a final score of 57-43.

Mayzie Yoakam led all scorers with 25 points. Joely Chappell connected for 10 while Tanae Baker, Macy Martin, Kyndal Shraner and Hayden Green scored 2 points a piece.

The Scottie JV team lost their game 40-17 to Malta. Lacey White, Ava Runner and Hannah Holinde each scored 4 points for Glasgow while Riley Evenson-Glasoe and Paityn Britzman hit a bucket each. Gina Page sank a free throw for 1 point.

Glasgow's C squad also lost their game against Malta, falling 46-32. Kelbi Wersal and Lacey White both scored 8 for Glasgow followed by Debra Shields with 4 points. Bailey Billingsley and Ava Runner added a bucket each.

The Scotties started slow against Poplar, trailing 13-9 at the end of one and 24-21 at the half, but a 16-point third quarter propelled them to a 40-36 lead after three quarters. The Scotties scored another 16 in the fourth while Poplar put up 17 for the 56-53 Scotties win.

Chappell and Baker led all scorers with 14 points each. Yoakam added 12 followed by Green with 9 points. Schraner scored 4 and Page 3 points in the win.

Glasgow's JV team brought home a 52-37 win from Poplar. Evenson-Glasoe powered the team with 13 points. Wersal, White and Holinde all hit for 8 points while Page, Billingsley and Runner scored 4 a piece. Haleigh Huntsman scored 2 and Britzman 1 point.

The Scottie C team ran away with their game, winning 61-18. Wersal hit for 18 points followed by White with 13 and Holinde with 10 points. Billingsley scored 6 while Huntsman, Runner and Shields scored 4 a piece. Myli Swindler hit two free throws.

The Scotties close out the regular season this week with two road games. Glasgow will be in Harlem Friday, Feb. 9. The C girls play at 11 a.m. followed by the C boys at 12:30 p.m. JV girls tip off at 2 p.m. and the JV boys at 3:30 p.m. Varsity girls begin at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity boys at 6 p.m.

Glasgow will be in Fairview Saturday, Feb. 10, where the JV girls will play a half game at 1 p.m. followed by the JV boys at 2 p.m. Varsity girls hit the court and 3:30 p.m. and the varsity boys play at 5 p.m.
