Scottie Boys Lose to Malta, Beat Poplar

The Scottie boys suffered a tough 79-53 loss to Malta at home Feb. 1 but recovered with a 75-67 win over the Poplar Indians the following night on the road. Glasgow holds a 5-3, 8-8 overall record heading into the final week of the regular season.

Malta got hot early in the game in Scottie gymnasium, running up a 19-7 lead by the end of the first and a 41-15 lead at the half. Glasgow outscored the visitors 17-15 in the third to cut slightly into the Mustangs' lead but Malta put up 23 in the fourth while Glasgow hit 21 for the Scottie loss.

Cade Hudyma led all scorers with 34 points. Myles Yoakam connected for 5 points, Wyatt Babb and Toryn Richards 4, each, Nick Solorzano 3, Wyatt Sugg 2 points and Connor Hudyma 1 point. Babb, Solorzano and Yoakam led in assists with three each. Richards had two helpers while Trey Graham had one.

Cade Hudyma notched a double-double with 10 rebounds. Babb snagged nine boards, Richards four, Yoakam three, and Solorzano and Connor Hudyma two each. Solorzano, Yoakam and Richards had one steal a piece. Yoakam had two blocks and Babb knocked down one Malta shot.

Glasgow's JV team also lost, 70-54. Sugg and Gage Waarvik led the team with 12 points each followed by Andy Hanson with 11 and Noah Runner with 9 points. Davis Tolzien scored 6 and Graham and Cash Stulc both hit a bucket.

The Scotties took a 20-14 lead over Poplar in the first quarter the following night and held on to it throughout the game, leading 36-28 at the half. Poplar outscored Glasgow 19-17 in the third for a 55-47 Scottie lead going into the fourth where Glasgow put up 22 points while holding the Indians to 20 points.

Cade Hudyma led the Scotties with 30 points followed by Yoakam with 18 and Babb with 16 points. Solorzano hit for 6, Connor Hudyma 3 and Richards 2 points. Richards, Babb and Cade Hudyma had three assists each with Connor Hudyma getting one helper.

Cade Hudyma and Babb both had double-doubles with 19 and 15 rebounds, respectively. Richards pulled down five, Yoakam four, and Connor Hudyma and Solorzano two rebounds each. Richards, Yoakam and Babb had a steal a piece.

The Scottie JV team won their game 77-53 led by Stulc and Hanson, both with 21 points. Sugg, Runner and Waarvik all scored 8 points and Davis Tolzien had 6 points. Graham and Braxton Potter scored 3 each.

Glasgow's C squad fell 50-38 in Poplar. Waarvik scored 11 in leading the Scotties followed by Tayven Bietz with 7 and Stulc with 5 points. Liam Chapman and Tripp Mavity scored 4 each while Gage Larsen, Drew Simensen, Gavin Redstone and Potter hit for 2 points a piece.

The Scotties close out the regular season this week with two road games. Glasgow will be in Harlem Friday, Feb. 9. The C girls play at 11 a.m. followed by the C boys at 12:30 p.m. JV girls tip off at 2 p.m. and the JV boys at 3:30 p.m. Varsity girls begin at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity boys at 6 p.m.

Glasgow will be in Fairview Saturday, Feb. 10, where the JV girls will play a half game at 1 p.m. followed by the JV boys at 2 p.m. Varsity girls hit the court and 3:30 p.m. and the varsity boys play at 5 p.m.
