Scottie Volleyball Advances to Northern Divisional

Place Fourth at District 2B Tourney

The Scotties took fourth place at the District 2B Volleyball Tournament with home court advantage last week. Glasgow advances to the Northern B Divisional with an 11-8 overall record.

The Scotties opened the tournament with a win over Harlem Thursday. Glasgow fell to Fairview Saturday morning but rebounded with a win over Poplar that afternoon. They closed out the first post-season event with a loss to Malta.

Glasgow swept Harlem 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 to start the weekend. The Scotties put up 13 aces, 28 kills, 28 assists, nine blocks and 50 digs in the win.

Tatum Nyquist notched six aces while Joely Chappell led in kills and digs with 11 and 13, respectively. Macy Martin had 26 helpers and Hayden Green blocked five Wildcats' shots.

The Scotties fell to the Warriors in a hard-fought four sets 16-25, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26. Glasgow put up eight aces, 41 kills, 38 assists, eight blocks and 71 digs to Fairview's 12 aces, 42 kills, 35 assists, eight blocks and 45 digs.

Nyquist led in aces with three and in kills with 13. Chappell added 12 kills for Glasgow. Martin had 37 of the team's 38 assists while Green knocked down six shots by Fairview. Halle Hunter had 16 digs in leading the Scotties.

Glasgow returned to the court soon after the loss to claim their second win of the weekend. The Scotties swept the Indians 25-19, 27-25, 25-22 while putting 10 aces, 34 kills, 34 assists, seven blocks and 72 digs on the stats sheet.

Nyquist held her spot as aces leader for Glasgow with four. Chappell notched 11 kills. Martin had all but one of the Scotties' assists. Hunter and Green each had three blocked shots. Chappell led in digs with 17, trailed closely by Martin with 16.

Glasgow closed out the day – and the tournament – with a 23-25, 20-25, 19-25 loss to the M-ettes. Malta put 12 aces, 25 kills, 25 assists, six blocks and 75 digs in the books while Glasgow had three aces, 29 kills, 27 assists, seven blocks and 73 digs.

Gina Page had all three of Glasgow's aces. Nyquist recorded 11 kills and Martin had 23 helpers. Green stopped three Malta shots. Chappell and Martin split honors in digs with 16 each.

Head coach Brooke Martin expressed disappointment with her team's final placing, noting they are playing better than their record at the tournament reflected, but also noted the team is looking forward.

"Days like Friday are where a lack of depth really hurts you. We only used seven girls and other teams used at least 8-10 so they weren't quite as depleted by the end of the day as we were. We played great against Fairview in the morning but losing to them again right out of the gate was tough for the girls to overcome mentally," she told the Courier. "But, the post-season goal is always to move on and we did that, so we have given ourselves another shot at another weekend of play! Plan is to work hard and hopefully move on again!"

The Class B Northern Divisional Tournament will be held in Malta Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 2-4. Glasgow faces the Fairfield Eagles in the opening round, hitting the court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. Fairview and Choteau play at 10 a.m. followed by Conrad and Malta at 11:45 a.m. Wolf Point plays Shelby at 3:15 p.m. following Glasgow's match.
