Scottie XC Teams Set 17 Personal Records

Close Regular Season With Two Team Wins

The Glasgow cross country teams are peaking at the right time. They head into the MHSA State XC Championships after closing out their regular season Oct. 14 at the Harlem Invitational with 17 personal records and one season record.

The Scottie girls put up eight personal bests from Tanae Baker, Emily See, Kimber Dulaney, Haleigh Huntsman, Caylen Jankowski, Kheyerah Bilger, Haylly Turner and Mary Dykema. Reed Larsen, Kyler Holinde, KJ Ingram, Ted See, Kyler Whitman, Adam Mickelson, James Seekins, Malin Beck and Dylan Hlad set personal records in the boys race while Lane Thompson set a season record.

Baker led the girls team to a first place finish. Glasgow put up 21 points to lead Shelby in second with 50 and Chinook in third with 62 points. Baker ran an 18:28.4 for first place. She currently holds the best time in girls Class B with her new personal best. E. See sits second in the state, and took second in Harlem, with a time of 18:54.1. Dulaney hit her goal of coming in under 22 minutes this season with a time of 21:22.8. She took seventh place.

Huntsman, an eighth-grader, made her high school cross country debut at the meet in the first year eighth graders have been allowed to compete at the high school level. She claimed eighth place with a time of 21:59.5. The time qualified Huntsman for the state championships, however she would have needed to compete in two high school meets in order to attend.

Jankowski ran a 22:20.2 for 10th place. Bilger took 13th place with a time of 22:54.3 with Turner close behind in 15th place at 23:30.7. "I'm feeling excited heading into state. I feel well prepared and ready to take on my last race," Turner said. "My goal is to finish the race and feel accomplished with my final time. I'm most proud of sticking with cross country for all 4 years of high school."

Riley Evenson-Glasoe took 18th place with a time of 24:15.6. Dykema ran 24:38.2 for 20th place. Josie Kemp came in 27th with a time of 26:20.5 and Eve Stone ran a 37.21.6 for 36th place.

Larsen placed second in the boys race with a time of 16:03.3, hitting his goal of running in the low 16s this season. He led the Scottie boys to a first place finish with their 18 points, out-distancing Plenty Coups with 40 and Harlem with 81 points.

"I feel pretty nervous, but also really excited to run at state, with the higher level of competition," Larsen said when asked how he feels heading into his final high school meet. "I am mostly proud of how much I've improved time wise over my 4 years of running high school, and how much I've accomplished this season compared to others." Larsen extended his gratitude to everyone who has supported him throughout his tenure at GHS. "Without them, I don't think I'd get this far in cross country." He added he is looking forward to seeing everybody who has supported him at the state meet.

Holinde took third at 17:13.2. Ingram came in sixth at 18:06.8, just outpacing Thompson's 18:08.4 seventh-place finish. T. See took 12th place at 18:43.6 followed by Whitman in 13th at 19:27.4. Mickelson claimed 18th place with his time of 20:00.8 followed by Eli Feezell in 20th place at 10:16.6.

Seekins ran a 21:03.0 for 25th place and Jordan Cook took 29th place at 21:42.6. Beck ran a 21:56.9 for 33rd place followed by Hlad in 38th at 22:37.3. Owen Thompson rounded out the boys team by taking 39th place at 23:10.5.

The Scotties travel to Missoula for the MHSA State XC Championships this Saturday, Oct. 22. Baker, E. See, Dulaney, Evenson-Glasoe, Jankowski, Bilger, and Turner will represent the girls team on the course with Dykema serving as alternate and Kira Beck as Glasgow's manager.

"When I found out I couldn't run this year due to a torn ACL, I was crushed. When I found out I was able to still be part of the team as manager, I was so excited," said K. Beck. "The Scottie XC team is more than a team it's a family. A family that I am proud to be a part of. I am most proud of watching my teammates achieve their goal and crush school records. I am proud to be a Scottie. I will miss being part of this amazing team but once a Scottie always a Scottie."

Larsen, Holinde, L. Thompson, Ingram, T. See, Feezell, and Whitman are set to run the boys race with Mickelson as alternate and K. Beck as manager. The girls race will be at 1:10 p.m. followed by the boys at 2:20 p.m. at the U of M Golf Course.
