Scottie XC Off And Running At Billings Invitational

Harriers Brave Hail and More in Season Debut

All hail the Scotties? The weather at the Billings Invitational took that quite literally, forcing the Glasgow runners to face rain, shine and hail in their inaugural event of the year. Despite the challenges and the crowded field, the Scotties started their season on the right foot.

The Glasgow girls varsity team placed 12th out of 29 teams, led by junior Emily See's top ten finish. The girls scored 279 points. Senior Reed Larsen led the Scottie boys varsity team to a 17th place finish, also out of 29 teams, with his 12th place run. The boys' score was 420 points.

"The first meet went great!" enthused See. Larsen echoed his teammate, "The first meet went great, both our girls and our boys had good times for the beginning of the season, which was aided by the great competition we were able to run with."

See finished in ninth place, out of 133 runners, with a time of 20:12.17. Sophomore Tanae Baker, an All-State finisher last season, finished her race in 20:52.37 for 22nd place. Freshman Kimber Dulaney ran a 23:40.52 to take 87th place. Sophomore Kheyerah Bilger took 12th place, out of 158 runners, with a time of 25:38.68. Senior Haylly Turner ran a 26:46.36 for 123rd place.

Larsen ran a 17:07.72, overcoming an early fall on the slick course, for his 12th place finish. Sophomore Kyler Holinde ran an 18:06.99 to finish in 37th place. Junior Eli Feezell took 137th after finishing in 21:53.36. Sophomores Ted See and Adam Mickelson finished 144th and 146th, respectively. T. See ran a 22:44.05 with Mickelson close behind him with a time of 22:51.90.

In JV action, the Scottie boys placed 16th out of 33 schools with a score of 455 points. The Glasgow girls had an incomplete team and registered no points.

First-year runner junior KJ Ingram placed 40th for the boys, out of 204 competitors, with a time of 20:44.07. Freshman Kyler Whitman ran a 23:19:07 to take 105th place. Junior James Seekins took 118th with his time of 23:52.85. Sophomore Owen Thompson ran the race in 26:56.09 for 179th place. Sophomore Malin Beck took 191st place with a time of 29:02.41.

Sophomore Riley Evenson-Glasoe led the girls JV team with a time of 29:33.54, taking 108th place out of 183 runners. Freshman Caylen Jankowski was close behind her, in 110th place, with a time of 29: 35.63. Junior Eve Stone took 171st place with a time of 36.34.15.

Larsen told the Courier, "Fans can look for great improvements of time and improvements of Class B rankings throughout the season, as well as some inner team competition." E. See also predicts a good season for both the boys and girls teams, adding, "I'm really looking forward to this season and I think that everyone on the team is excited as well."

The Scottie cross country team will attend the Poplar Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 3, with a 10 a.m. start time. Both high school and middle school teams will be in attendance.
