Law Enforcement Report

For the week of July 18 through 23, there were 26 motor vehicle stops, four reports of loose livestock, two reports of loose dogs, one report of a lost dog and one VIN inspection request on a trailer.

For the week of July 25 through 31, there were 26 motor vehicle stops, three reports of loose dogs, six reports of loose livestock, one report of a barking dog and two VIN inspection requests.

Monday, July 18

0316 – Caller reported a suspicious person. He said a male asked if he could charge his phone in the lobby. The male seemed to be under the influence of something and he doesn’t want drug at his hotel. A description of the male was provided. At 0326, officer requested back-up from VCSO and the male was advised he had to leave.

0843 – A fire was reported by multiple 911 calls. At 0904, the caller called in to request the fire department as his tractor had started a fire I the middle of the field. Nashua and Long Run Fire were paged. At 1009, the fire was contained.

1150 – Caller reported they hit a gas line and it is leaking. MDU was contacted. Fire Command arrived and stated the gas line is capped.

1228 – Caller was audibly upset stating she is trying to get her stuff from the house and her boyfriend is not allowing her to while screaming and hollering at her. Two officers were notified.

1434 – Life 360 operator called about a crash stating it was in the water around the Dredge Cuts and Boy Scout park. Coordinates ere provided which came back in an area on land in McCone County. FWP and MHP were updated with the information. At 1515, Life 360 called back with updated coordinates which came back with a location off of Dead End Ln and MT Highway 117. Deputy was also notified who located the parties involved and everyone is okay.

1559 – Called stating there is a GMC truck driving all over the road and he is concerned the driver will be in an accident or hurt someone. Caller is willing to write a statement.

1604 – Store manager reported someone left without paying and believes it was just a problem with the card not working. A description of the vehicle was provided.

1629 – A call came in wanting to know how to get ahold of someone at the Fire Department. There has been a smell that is concerning as they have had problems with the air conditioner unit but doesn’t smell like gas. At 1707 Fire Command stated they checked on it. It was a window AC unit that was going bad and it’s now unplugged.

1732 – Caller reported an Escape passed her on a gravel road doing about 60 mph and threw rocks on her vehicle. A description of the location was provided and caller is willing to sign a complaint. It was determined it was believed to be road rage on both sides.

1758 – Caller reported a power line that’s down on 4th Ave near Nemont Manor. He said the line is not sparking but it’s at the edge of the road. It was determined to be a line for a street light. There’s a tree on it and it’s hanging down. There is no sparking and the pole is bending because of the pressure.

1822 – Caller reported a huge tree fell down and is blocking the Whately Road, after the road curves tot he east and go a couple of miles. County Road Department was notified.

1853 – Caller reported a line down in the alley behind the Methodist Church and it’s in the church parking lot. It was determined to be a telephone line that’s laying on the ground.

Tuesday, July 19

0012 – Deputy advised a man told him the “middle window” was open at Flip’s. He said there may be a screen but the window is not secured. An officer checked out the building and no one is inside. There is a screen in the door.

0033 – Reporting party reported seeing sparking to the east of his residence about a half-mile to a mile from there toward MT Highway 24N. Norval was notified and stated there are several transformer poles down in the area. It was advised nothing was located but there is a lot of lightning, so it’s possible lightning was seen.

0541 – Caller stated the Water Department would be closing 8th St. N from the Intersection with US Highway 2. At 1706, it was advised 8th Street North is open again. Fire and EMS were notified.

0959 – MT DOT called in requesting an extra patrol. They have a work crew out there and people are not slowing down or obeying the signs.

1126 – Caller stated they have a pile of tires that have caught fire. He said they do have a water truck on scene but doesn’t know if it has enough water to put out the fire. At 1239, it was requested to call RCSO to see if they have a tender that can respond to the fire, BIA FD is enroute. At 1427, it was advised the fire had been turned over to the landowner.

1232 – FMDH called stating they have a female in the clinic with a cat bit to her forearm and elbow. The cat was a barn cat with no immunizations.

1242 – Reporting party advised the MT Housing Authority contacted him last night and stated his identity has been stolen, someone has his social security number. They then told him to contact dispatch for a report. Caller was advised to contact the SSA in Helena and his banks in additions to any credit cards he may have.

1403 – A deputy is out with a vehicle waiting for someone to bring them gas.

2029 – Reporting party stated they are in a work truck and there is a newer Chevy pickup that crossed over the railroad tracks. The vehicle is swerving all over the road. At 2032 law enforcement located the vehicle and will follow to get driving behavior.

2205 – Caller reported she was almost hit by a little white car downtown. She followed the vehicle and said it almost hit other vehicles as well. The caller followed the vehicle to the ER and the driver went up onto the curb but it’s unknown if the pedestal was hit. The person got out of the vehicle and is trying to go into the ER.

2218 – Caller stated she hit a deer and she is between the Stockyards and Sullivan Park. She is not injured, just a little “freaked out” because it’s her dad’s car. She doesn’t know if the car is driveable or not. At 2222, deputy advised they were able to move the vehicle to a nearby approach. DOT was contacted about the deer.

2226 – Caller reported a man walking on US 2. He’s halfway between Poplar and Wolf Point and is headed towards Wolf Point. A description of the male was provided. The call was transferred to Roosevelt 911.

Wednesday, July 20

0153 – Caller stated while he was at Holiday, an employee working there stated a bicycle had been dropped off and no one knows who it belongs to. The bicycle had been parked by a nearby residence for a few weeks but it isn’t his. At 0319, an officer advised he informed the people at Holiday it’s believed who the owner of the bike is.

0722 – MT DOT called to request extra patrol again today for DOT work crews if anyone is available.

1143 – A male called stating he just got a scam call. He didn’t answer it but they left a message about a charge of $1,400 on an account which wasn’t specified. They wanted him to press 1 if it wasn’t correct but it was on his voicemail. The caller was advised never to give out any of his personal information. The caller stated he just wanted dispatch to know.

1244 – Caller stated they just received a call from Publishers Clearing House and was very convincing until they wanted her to purchase a $500 gift card. They did have her name and address but she didn’t give them anything. She just wanted to let dispatch know this scam is going around still. Dispatch reminded the caller to never give out personal information.

1257 – A male called in requesting how to get an abandoned vehicle removed from private property. The vehicle was left by a sub contractor they used to use but no longer do. The caller stated they have tried emailing, texting and left voicemails but have received no response.

1302 – Reporting party called in to report she had been involved in a minor fender bender. There are no injuries.

1443 – A CRP fire was reported on Mendenhall Road in McCone County. Information was passed along to MCSO Dispatch.

2009 – Caller reported a truck at the underpass that’s going to need assistance backing up.

2055 – Unknown female reported an older white truck that’s broken down on Highway 24 North by St. Marie. She said there’s people walking in the road.

2057 – Caller reported a suspicious van parked at the Valley Event Center. A description of the vehicle was provided. It was determined they are waiting on friends to go on a tour of national parks and Mount Rushmore.

2105 – Caller reported a Toyota pickup that whipped around him real close when he was in Culbertson. He also said the driver was going about 90-95 MPH.

2208 – Deputy removed a dead fawn from the road. Local MDT office was notified.

Thursday, July 21

0122 – Caller reported a deer that was hit and still alive. It’s in the middle of the road going toward the bowling alley.

0424 – Caller reported hearing a man outside either in the field or inside the fence that is either hurt or drunk. He is talking but can’t understand what he is saying. It was determined the person is inside of the building. An officer arrived and spoke to the resident, everything is okay.

1427 – Caller stated he works for MT DOT and just picked up a dead calf off the side of the road. He wanted dispatch to know in case someone calls in about it.

1600 – Caller reported there’s a man walking northbound by MM 5 along Hwy 24 North. He is screaming, yelling and flipping people off. At 1603, deputy advised the subject is on the east side of the road by the bridge and is not in the road. At 1707 another caller reported the man walking along Hwy 24 N around MM 9 to MM 10 and believed he had a long gun unless it was a fishing pole. The deputy was advised who stated he didn’t see a long gun or a fishing pole and stated it was probably a stick.

1755 – Caller reported there’s a red shed in front of him that is being towed on a car trailer. The trailer has no plates and there’s stuff flying off the shed and it smashed into his F250. The caller called back stating more stuff flew off and put a big crack I his windshield. He was able to stop the other vehicle about 2 miles west of Hinsdale and they exchanged information.

1821 – An employee with John Deere dealership called to state they lost both wheel bearings on a grain auger. The grain auger currently has no wheels on it and it’s parked off the road a couple miles east of Hinsdale. It’s off the highway and there is a flag on it and some cones up.

1850 – Caller is in a Suburban and said there’s a Ford Excursion behind them that is all over the road. A deputy located the vehicle and stopped. There is no sign of impairment. He’s going to check his blood sugar and his windshield is very dirty.

Friday, July 22

0140 – An officer is helping someone jump start their truck.

0208 – Reporting party is having vehicle problems and is at Hi-Line Ford. He is planning on staying on his camper until morning when he can get the truck fixed there if it is okay. AN officer helped him get back into a different spot.

0952 – Reporting party called stating he sold a bunch of copper to some guys. They paid him some of the money and were supposed to come back on Monday and pay him the rest of it. They have never showed back up and has not seen them since. He said he has some names and phone numbers he will give to the officer when he calls. At 0955, deputy advised he called the reporting party and left a voicemail.

1249 – Reporting party called stating there is a fire right before St. Marie. Another call came in stating the fire is just north of St. Marie by the highway. St. Marie Fire Chief advised he can see the plum of smoke from Airport Road. Deputy advised he is shutting down 5th Ave. at St. Marie. It was determined the fire was started by some farming equipment, that someone hit a rock.

1642 – Officer reported a theft took place at approximately 2:30.

0952 – Deputy stated there might be a medical concern with a runner in Frazer at their race. The runner was a little over heated and was provided with a drink. No medical emergency at this time.

1118 – Caller wants to know what to do about a neighbor (the landlord) taking their cats. The call was passed along.

1123 – Reporting party called in about two vehicles. The caller was audibly shaken trying to describe that there were lots of people. The caller was able to regain composure to state there were two vans, one black with apparently six people and a white van with maybe three or four people. She said there were several injuries. While trying to page fire and EMS, deputy was radioed who was nearby. At 1126, deputy advised there are three fatalities, two females and one male. Hospital was notified regarding bringing in the juveniles.

1418 – Reporting party called about finding a very large tote that was lost along the highway about 20 miles west of Glasgow. It is filled with construction equipment and paint supplies. They were going to leave it at Ezzie’s West End but they would not let them leave it there so they brought it to dispatch.

Monday, July 25

1222 – A large bolt in the east bound lane at an intersection. Message was left for local DOT. Dispatch also called Helena and they will attempt to call someone on the radio to get the bolt removed.

1559 – Reporting party called concerned there are windows wide open and fans going, as well as a dog is out. The resident is deceased and the caller offered to go and close the windows if needed. An officer was notified who will contact the family regarding the house.

Tuesday, July 26

0752 – MT DOT called stating he just got a report of a deer that has been hit but is still alive. He requested F&G to come dispatch the deer. At 0848, F&G advised he took a couple passes through the area and was unable to locate the deer.

1047 – A parking violation was reported. The vehicle is moving and on it’s way.

1254 – Reporting party called in a grass fire. Fire Chief in Opheim was notified. He stated he got some calls from some farmers who are also responding. At 1350, Fire Chief called to advise the fire is out and has been turned over to the landowner.

1420 – Employee at local gas station called in to report a drive off of $29.86. The incident occurred at 1339 hours and a description of the subject and vehicle was provided.

1547 – Caller lost a cell phone. She last saw it around 1230 hours and she may have let it on her truck when she drove off. If so, it may have fallen off in town or by the bowling alley. A description of the phone was provided and she would like a call if it’s found. At 1702 GPD advised the cell phone has been turned in to them and they were not able to reach the owner. Dispatch contacted the owner.

1615 – Caller reported that 10-15 minutes ago, a white delivery truck hit the side of their drive thru and did some damage. A description of where the vehicle was going was provided and the caller has pictured. At 1632, officer found the vehicle.
