Reds Drop Two to Blue Jays,

Finish 3-2 in Lewistown

The Glasgow Reds were on the road for a pair of games in Billings on June 12. The Reds suffered two losses to the Billings Blue Jays, including a shut out of the second game.

In their first game against the Jays, Glasgow brought one run home in the top of the second inning, but were unable to score for the remainder of the game and lost the contest 1-5. Dylan Nieskens earned the RBI when he singled on a line drive to center field, bringing Gavin Adkins across the plate for the run.

Kevin McDonald took the loss on the hill for Glasgow. He went six innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking one. Facing 26 batters, McDonald tossed 101 pitches in the game.

Despite out-hitting Billings nine to two in the second game, the Reds were handed a shut-out and their second loss of the day.

Nieskens led Glasgow at the plate with three singles in the game, followed by John Cremer with two singles.

Darrin Wersal was the losing pitcher for the contest, lasting four and a third innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out three. Fossum, Guttenberg and Vinny Chappell all provided relief on the mound in the final innings.

Reds @ Lewistown

Following a pair of losses on the road to the Billings Blue Jays on June 12, the Glasgow Reds traveled to Lewistown for their annual participation in the Harold Gjerde Tournament.

The tournament began on Thursday, June 13, and concluded for Glasgow on Sunday, June 16. The Reds finished the weekend 3-2, although the two losses they recorded were substantial.

Their first loss came at the hands of GVO on Thursday afternoon when they were defeated 16-3 in six innings.

The Reds recorded three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Noah Lipszyc. While GVO didn't commit a single error, Glasgow finished with eight in the game.

Chase Guttenberg took the loss for Reds. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out three and walking one. He faced 15 batters and tossed 44 pitches. A string of relief pitchers finished the contest, including Cale Swanson, Lipszyc, Vinny Chappell and Bryce Legare.

The following day, Glasgow won their first of two games when they defeated the Powell Pioneers out of Wyoming, 17-5.

While both teams had their share of errors in the contest, Glasgow's offense was on fire and they finished with 17 runs off 12 hits.

Kristian Price, Kaden Fossum, and Lipszyc each collected two hits to lead the Reds. Dylan Nieskens and Darrin Wersal led in stolen bases, as they each had two of the team's total of six in the game.

Gavin Adkins was the winning pitcher for Reds. He allowed seven hits and five runs over six innings, striking out eight. He threw 104 pitches to 31 batters over his six-inning reign on the mound.

The Reds' second loss of the tournament came later in the afternoon on Friday as they fell hard to the Lewiston Redbirds in an 11-1 loss. Glasgow had another game heavy with errors, racking up eight compared to the Redbirds' single flub.

Glasgow had a tough time defensively containing the Redbirds who out-hit the Reds 2-1.

John Cremer took the loss for the Reds. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing four hits and seven runs while striking out three. He faced 27 batters and threw 87 pitches in the game. Fossum provided relief out of the bullpen.

On Saturday, Glasgow turned the tables on their competitors and nearly achieved a shut-out against the Livingston Braves.

The Reds led offensively the entire game, but gave up the single run in the top of the fifth inning.

Glasgow had a four-run rally in the sixth inning with singles by Chase Guttenberg and Nieskens, an error on a ball put in play by Wersal, and a double by Swanson. Nieskens led in hits with three hits in five at bats.

Glasgow had seven stolen bases in the contest with Wersal and Nieskens both successfully stealing two bases.

Price pitched the entire contest and earned the victory for the Reds. He allowed four hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking zero. He tossed 73 pitches and faced 22 batters.

Glasgow played their final game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon and collected another win, defeating the Havre North Stars 7-4.

Each team had six hits in the contest, but Glasgow was able to capitalize on their showings at the plate.

Fossum earned the win for the Reds. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out two. He threw 83 pitches and faced 22 batters. Wersal threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen and earned the save when he recorded the last nine outs of the game for Glasgow.
