Scottie Boys Earn Runner-Up at State XC, Place Three All-State

Girls Fall Just Short of Hardware with Fourth-Place Finish

The Scottie cross country team joined hundreds of competitors at the state meet in Missoula on Oct. 20. Runners from all classes converged on the University of Montana Golf Course on what turned out to be a beautiful fall day.

For class B, the girls were scheduled to run first. With 145 runners, the competition was heavy. The Scottie girls held their own with Iris McKean leading the way in 18th place overall. Emily Kolstad and Lauren Padden crossed the finish line 27th and 30th, followed by Brooke Westby in 39th and Ali Cunningham in 43rd. Alaina Sallee and Katie Kaiser rounded out the Scottie girls in 55th and 65th places.

As a team, the girls placed fourth overall, with the perennial powerhouse Manhattan winning gold, followed by Colstrip and Townsend.

The Scottie boys had their eye on the top podium spot going into their race, but they fell just six points short of their goal. The Manhattan boys outran the Scotties and finished with 80 points overall. Finishing in third place behind Glasgow was Eureka with 101 points. For the Scotties, Wilson Overby claimed the top spot and earned All-State recognition, finishing fourth overall out of 180 total runners for class B. Ike Braaten and Ellis McKean finished sixth and 13th overall, becoming the second and third Glasgow runners to achieve All-State status for the day. Merlin McKean finished 21st, just shy of All-State placement. Colton Pewitt, Carl Zabrocki and Colin Jamba finished 42nd, 56th and 70th for the Scottie boys.
