Area Students Participate in MedStart Camp

Area students, Ashlyn Aten and Kassandra Moore, were two of 16 Montana high school juniors and seniors who participated in the Miles City MedStart Camp from July 16-20 in Miles City. MedStart Summer Camp is a five-day summer camp program sponsored by the Montana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) system.

The program is designed to encourage students to pursue their interest in a variety of healthcare careers. The aim is to provide students a chance to further explore their career choices, learn about college life and realize it is possible to pursue higher education.

Aten and Moore toured area healthcare facilities and the college campus, completed job shadowing at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City and were exposed to many different healthcare careers. The students spent the week at the Miles Community College dorms to give them a taste of college living.

The Miles City camp was sponsored by North Eastern Montana AHEC located at Montana Health Network in Miles City. Other sponsors of this event include: Miles Community College, Holy Rosary Healthcare and OneHealth Montana, all in Miles City. In addition, Nibs and Edna Allen Foundation and the Roosevelt Memorial Medical Center in Culbertson provided financial support.
