Small Crew Swims in Roundup

Sand, Johnson, Kaiser Dominate

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team was represented by just one dozen swimmers this past weekend at the Roundup Invitational. The final regular-season meet was held July 22 and 23, and the team placed ninth overall with 276 points.

Three Thunder swimmers came home with high-point trophies for their performances at the meet. Dalton Sand, Trevor Johnson and Katie Kaiser each finished the weekend with first-place finishes in all three of their individual events.

In addition, Sand claimed a pool record in the 200m individual medley and bested the federation record already held by him in the 200m freestyle by four seconds. According to head coach Nicole Arnold, many of the swimmers swam their best times of the season in Roundup. Allie Palm improved her time in the 50m butterfly by 7.58 seconds, Haylly Turner dropped 2.47 seconds in the 50m breaststroke, and Ava Reyes cut nearly two seconds in two of her events: the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly.

The coaches recognized Grace Reyes as the GKST Athlete of the Meet for the week. “Grace was on fire this weekend, cutting a total of 20 seconds off her previously recorded times in her events,” said Arnold. “She also placed top seven in all of her events and swam with picture perfect form for the first time. Grace showed great growth in her butterfly and breaststroke races.”

Coming up, the Thunder will be in Sidney Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, for the Eastern Divisional meet. The team will be represented by 22 swimmers, one of the lowest numbers of athletes that Glasgow has ever sent to a divisional competition. “We are hoping the quality of athletes will outshine the quantity,” said Arnold of the upcoming meet.
