Scottie Golfers Fight Wind, Rain, Snow

Girls Claim Third for Second Year In a Row

Perseverance paid off for the Glasgow golfers at their divisional meet in Shelby. With likely the worst weather possible descending on them, the girls earned their third-place trophy and punched their ticket to the state meet next week.

Assistant coach Betty Truscott said the weather was "horrid," and the meet was called after just nine holes. Truscott explained that it was 34 degrees with snow and rain, with 22 mph winds. "It's very tough to play in that weather," she said.

Despite the adverse conditions, three Scottie girls were able to place in the top 15 for the meet.

Leading the scoring for the girls were Lexi Pehlke and Amy Nelson with 59 points, followed by Lauren Runningen, 63; Heidi Moon, 71; and Taylor Palm, 74.

None of the boys were able to place individually or for state, with the team finishing sixth - two places behind fourth-place Malta.

Scores for the boys: Cody Ross, 52; Blaine Myrick, 53; Max Carpenter, 54; Jeremiah Wethern, 56; and Oden Hallock, 62.

The state meet will be in Huntley/Shepherd Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18.
