Porcupines Split Games Against Dodson

It was a good match-up between the Nashua Porcupines and the Dodson Coyotes. The boys and girls met in the Nashua Gymnasium for Friday night’s contests.

For the boys, it appeared to be a battle of the stats between the top two scorers of the game, starting senior Lane Nickels of Nashua and Tyrese Messerly of Dodson. Nickels scored 9 of his 15 points from beyond the arc; Messerly answered back with 12 of his 21 coming from downtown. At the free-throw line, Nickels went 2 for 2, while Messerly sunk 5 of 5.

While Messerly won the battle, Nickels and his team won the war, finishing the game with a final score of 43-40. Also contributing to the score for the Porcupines were the four other starters: Nolan Viste 4, Gavin Adkins 4, Chase Williams 3, and Dylan Sanner 7. Coming off the bench to add to the score were: Gunner Greene 8, and Sawyer Sibley 2. Fouling out of the game was Adkins. Williams was also looking at the bench with 4 fouls of his own.

In addition to Messerly, scoring for Dodson: Lane Walling 3, David Jaynes 2, Shaun Ball 5, and Cleo Cole 7.

Despite a good showing, the Lady Porcupines were unable to claim a victory over the Lady Coyotes. Dodson outscored Nashua in the first and the third quarters of the game, while Nashua outscored their opponent in the second and fourth quarters. Ultimately, the Lady Coyotes prevailed over the Lady Porcupines 43-36.

Nashua’s starting five and their total points were: Taylor Laumeyer 4, Ziggy Chamberlain 3, Sophie Koessl 5, Ryleigh Delich 2, and top scorer Tasha Chamberlain with 13. Coming off the bench were Anika Peters 7, and Brennan 2.

Scoring for the Lady Coyotes were: Donna Dale 5, Kailee Henry 12, Shawnee Kill Eagle 2, Christina Janes 8, Talyssa Horn-Oates 3, and top scorer Shontelle Talks Different 13.

Fouling and free-throws may have been the game-losing factor for Nashua, who racked up 19 fouls. With 55 percent success at the line, Dodson capitalized on those fouls. The Lady Porcupines sunk 57 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe, but just didn’t get as many opportunities.

Up next for the Porcupines is a home game vs. Glasgow on Thursday, and a game on the road to Frazer on Saturday.
