Glasgow Falls to Sidney in Weeknight Duel

Two Scottie Seniors Honored

Glasgow hosted the Sidney Eagles in a wrestling duel on Tuesday, Dec 22. Leading into the big event with the varsity wrestlers, the middle school mat boys showed off with some scrappy matches of their own.

The highlight of the night was the recognition of two longtime wrestlers. Seniors Cody King and Mick Reyling are competing in their last year of high school wrestling for the Scotties. When they stood in the center circle surrounded by their families, the two brought with them 24 years of combined experience in the sport.

Scottie wrestling has produced a number of high caliber athletes and boasts an undeniable legacy. King and Reyling have been significant contributors to the program and are expected to have successful seasons of their own.

In an engaging display of Scottie pride, the boys took to the mat for warm-ups in traditional tartan kilts. With the gymnasium lights turned down and six pendulum lights spotlighting the center circle, the atmosphere was extraordinary. With no visual distractions and the intense cheering of teammates and coaches on the floor, it was impossible not be be drawn to the action.

When the varsity matches began, junior Gabe Hallock started things off with a win by pin. Also winning with a pin during the competition was senior wrestler Cody King.

Matt Reyling and Oden Hallock both won their matches by forfeit.

Senior Mick Reyling and freshman Alex Hallock both pushed through three periods against determined opponents, but neither were able to claim a win. The night ended with the Eagles outwrestling the Scotties 48-24.

With four events scheduled the first week in January, the Scotties will have plenty of opportunity to fine tune their tactics.
