Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Alfreda Drabbs

Alfreda (Sigg) Drabbs, 93, died Sunday, May 17, 2015.

A gathering for friends and family will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, July 3, at the home of Frank and Khristi Drabbs at 424 S 2nd Ave. East in Malta.

She was the second of seven children born on June 10, 1921, to Alfred and Eleanor Sigg, near Joliet. She attended school in Joliet, and then the Montana State College in Bozeman, graduating in 1943. She was proud of the fact that she worked at the Fish Hatchery in Yellowstone National Park for a summer. She also attended Columbia in New York for a year.

She taught in Big Sandy before accepting a teaching position in Hinsdale, where she met and later married Foran Drabbs. They raised six children - Mary Eleanor, Francis, Charles, George, Aline and Nancy. They farmed and ranched north of Hinsdale, selling the ranch and moving into town in 1967 where she returned to teaching.

When she retired from teaching in 1974, she accepted the position of Valley County Superintendent of Schools. After she retired as superintendent, she traveled, visiting friends and family. She enjoyed her work, her students, and the camaraderie of her fellow teachers. She liked trying crafts of all kinds, including knitting and crocheting, but she loved quilting. Foran passed away in 2001, and Alfreda later moved to Malta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Foran; and three sisters, Julia Slack, Martha Neutgens and Audrey Larson.

Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Warddrip of Billings, and Carolyn Pilgrim and her husband, Joe, of Wolf Point; one brother, Jake Sigg of San Francisco, Calif .; three daughters, Mary Drabbs of Albuquerque, N.M., Aline Yergler and her husband, Gary, of Kellogg, Idaho, and Nancy Salsbery and her husband, Ross, of Malta; three sons, Frank Drabbs and his wife, Khristi, of Malta, Chuck Drabbs of Three Forks, and George Drabbs and his wife, Darcie, of Malta; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
