State Golfers Don't Place At The Top, But Show A Personal Best

Scottie girl golfers gained some wonderful experience last week at the state golf meet – including the part when they had 50-plus people watching them on the first tee box. At least that’s what Coach Dave Riggin thought was wonderful.

“They’ve never experienced that before. The whole thing was great for the returning girls to experience,” said Riggin. “With two brand new girls and a second year golfer on the team this year, we will still have a young team next season.”

As for their overall performance, the Scottie girls placed eleventh out of twelve teams, with relatively close scores between ninth and eleventh place.

“They shot their best – the best rounds we shot all year,” Riggin said.

Both senior girls, Makkell Baillargeon and Tamrah Pewitt, had good front nines. Baillargeon shot a 49, which was a personal best, and Pewitt shot a 47, which was also one of her personal bests. Unfortunately, they both got into some trouble in the back nines and their scores reflected that.

The three other girls, Amy Nelson, Lauren Runningen, and Heidi Moon all shot well, also.

“We just had to get the jitters out of the way, but after that, they really performed”, said Riggin. “They are looking forward to next year, but they all know that to improve, they will have to practice this summer.”

“You know, it’s sad for us to lose our senior girls, but golf is a lifelong sport – it really is something they can enjoy for the rest of their lives," Riggin said.
