Nashua Track & Field

With nine career PRs at their own meet and another couple of weeks before District, the Nashua Porcupines are "a work in progress," coach Ryen Faulkenstern told The Courier..

"The boys had a real good day (at the Porcupine Invitational)," Faulkenstern said. "The girls, we're struggling a little bit there."

The Nashua boys team was runner-up, scoring 90.5 points to champion Hinsdale's 115. The girls placed ninth with 17 points, 60 behind first place Wolf Point.

Porkie Nation's nine PRs were sprinkled across the roster:

Dalton Kautz in 200 meters (24.7), 400 meters (55.5) and high jump (5-6).

Chase Williams in 400 meters (56.3).

Nolan Viste in triple jump (31-7) and javelin (did not place).

Lane Nickels in javelin (did not place).

Ryan Scanlan in javelin (124-0).

Taylor Padden in discus (96-10).

Hayley Nybaakken in 200 meters (did not place).

Nicole Williams in 800 meters (2:58.1)

Some Porkies figure to represent Nashua at Divisional and State. The question is how many of them.

Nickels qualified for State in the 400, 800 and 1,600 meters last year and has "an outstanding chance" to return, Fakenstern said. At the Porkie invite, Nickels won the 800 in 2:12.3 and the 1,600 in 4:48.0 and was second in the 400 at 55.1.

Faith Keys could again qualify for State in all three throwing events if she "pours it on late" like she did last year, the coach said. Last week, Keys was third in shot put (26-9), sixth in discuss (73-1) and third in javelin (73-1),

Also in the hunt for State are Ryan Scanlan in discuss, Chase Williams and Kautz in the 400, and the boys 1,600 meter relay team of Kautz, Williams, Nickels and Taylor Padden. Another possibility is freshman Taylor Laumeyer in the javelin, but she has a knee injury.

As a team, Faulkenstern said the boys should contend at District with Hinsdale and Scobey.

"The boys will try to win District, but I'm not sure if we have enough horses," he said. "I'm sure we'll get a trophy, but I'm not sure which one."

For the girls, the coach said a "Top 3 place at District would be a good showing." Also on the team are distance runner and jumper Zoe Glasoe and thrower Ryleigh Delich.

Nashua's remaining schedule: Hinsdale invite May 2 at Glasgow, Whitewater Invitational on April 30, Wolf Point Invitational on May 2, District 3-C meet on May 6 in Glasgow, C Divisional on May 14 in Glasgow, and State on May 22 and 23 at Laurel.
