Outdoor Life Conducts Optical Testing Here

Living in a community where everyone has some sort of outdoor interest, it's probably a safe bet that residents enjoy reading about hunting, fishing, camping and other topics of interest. Part of that reading may include some of the latest and greatest gear available to an avid outdoorsman.

Glasgow got a visit from some of the staff of Outdoor Life magazine. While Editor Andrew McKean and his family live here year round, he brought a few others to our neck of the woods to work on their optics testing this March.

The crew spent a few days out at the shooting range testing out binoculars, rifle scopes and spotters. Each year they produce an extensive feature article ranking all the different types and brands available on the new market. McKean, who lost his voice during the process, sent an email explaining that they decided on Glasgow this year because it was a place where they could all stay together and the landscape would appeal to readers.

He also stated that they've moved around quite a bit in the last 12 years to work on the optics test. They may or may not return to Glasgow because they look at other landscapes and areas to explore. He joked that Florida might be a better option next year, as the weekend has brought some pretty extreme cold conditions.

Some of the crew that joined in were the online editor, shooting editor and a cameraman. The Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) hosted a welcome reception for them at the Gateway.
