Toy Trains: All Aboard!

I know that the Thanksgiving turkey has not even been prepared yet, but we are forced to think of Christmas every time we go into a store or pick up papers or magazines.

Thinking of Christmas makes me remember when every young child wanted to find a train set under the tree. I say that knowing that there were little girls that wanted a train set just a badly as the young boys. Many daddies were bitten by the bug also, and it was not uncommon to see a very extravagant train set up in a grandpa’s basement.

The most well-known scale model train sets were made by Lionel. Most of these sets consisted of a large oval track, but some of the more fortunate not only had the oval track, but many side tracks as well. There was no end to the different train cars and engines available, not to mention all of the accessories to be purchased to round out your train set. Many of you can even recall the whistle of the engine and the noise of the train making its circle.

I need to make a trip to a toy store this Christmas season to see if this wonderful toy of so many years is still available or just what might have replaced it.
