GHS Volleyball 3-2 In Conference Matches After Splitting Two

Scottie Varsity Beats Harlem In Three Games, Falls To Plentywood In Four

The GHS varsity volleyball team has a record of 3-2 after conference matches with Harlem and Plentywood.

Solid passing led to steady play for the girls on Thursday as they defeated the Harlem Wildcats in three games straight. Amy Breigenzer rejoined the lineup for the first time after an ankle fracture sidelined her on August 26.

"Amy has been so patient during the healing process," coach Lori Dailey told The Courier. "How rewarding for her to play in front of a good home crowd after such a frustrating injury."

The Scotties kept pushing their offense and it really paid off as they beat Harlem 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.

"We looked like a solid team unit, with everyone contributing positively," Dailey said.

Almost flawless passing enabled the Scottie setter to run a more varied offense, keeping the Harlem defense guessing.

Glasgow individual leaders were Sadie Sukut with 8 kills, 5 digs and 4 blocks; Autumn Gault with 2 aces; and Teagan Fossum with 18 assists.

All three GHS teams were successful that evening.

"I'm so proud of how well the C Squad and and JV teams are also playing," Dailey said. "Thankfully, I have tremendous coaches at those levels who really keep the younger players competitive."

The trip to Plentywood on Saturday ended with mixed results for the Scotties. The JV girls dominated in three, while C Squad and varsity both took a loss.

"Plentywood continues to produce formidable teams loaded with talent," Dailey said. "Lindsay Wangerin is a threat. We knew that going in, and she was very successful. We will have to look for ways to shut down a tough attacker like her."

Unforced errors were the bane of the Scotties, but still they fought hard and took Plentywood to four very competitive games – 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13 – despite the injuries that continue to plague GHS.

"Lauren Runningen, a setter, is out for at least two weeks with a dislodged tooth so we're are having to adjust on the fly," Dailey said. "Kiauna Barstad is still out with a lower back injury and, of course, Khloe Krumwiede has not yet re-entered the lineup after knee surgery. It's difficult missing all of these players. I wonder what it would be like to have my entire team healthy for a match."

Even though it goes down in the books as a loss, the team is still improving and making some incredible plays, Dailey said. If they can string enough of them together, the outcomes will likely be more favorable.

Glasgow's individual leaders against Plentywood were Sukut with 13 kills and 13 digs, Fossum with 25 assists, Jazmine Shaw with 2 aces; and Sukut and Rachel Mickelson with 3 blocks each.

The Scotties travel to Wolf Point on Thursday and Poplar on Saturday.
