Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Lois Fern Lawrence

Lois Fern (Jennings) Lawrence, 88, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home, surrounded by family on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014. She was residing in the Munday Nursing Home in Munday, Texas.

A memorial service will be held in the United Methodist Church in Glasgow, on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. with internment in the Highland Cemetery.

She was born on April 21, 1926, the daughter of Milo and Dixie (Feezell) Jennings, in the Baylor community in Valley County, Mont. After many moves throughout her young life, the family settled in Opheim, where she attended and graduated from high school in 1943. Music was always a big part of her life and she enjoyed participating in all of those activities in school. After graduation, she attended Northern Montana College in Havre for one year; then taught school at the Wheatland Country School for one year.

On Feb. 3, 1945, she married Art Lawrence in the base chapel at Camp Roberts, Calif. She and Art began their married life in the Opheim community where they farmed and later had a custom harvesting business. They spent many summers harvesting for farmers from Texas back up to Montana, where she was the head cook for the large crews. In 1983, they moved to a home in Glasgow and continued the harvesting business for a few more years in Montana.

In 2008, she and Art moved into Prairie Ridge Assisted Living facility, where they made many friends and enjoyed several years. They were able to celebrate 66 years of marriage before Art passed away in 2011. When it became apparent that she needed more family to help out, her children moved her to Cody, Wyo., to Absaroka Assisted Living, where she resided until May of 2014.

She was very active in the United Methodist Church in both Opheim and Glasgow, played the piano and electric organ for her own enjoyment as well as for dances in the community. She loved to play bridge, attend water aerobics, and Bible studies.

She was proud to be a Republican Woman, a 50-plus-year member of Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a beautiful seamstress; even doing some tailoring for others. She had the gift of hospitality; welcoming all visitors with her famous cinnamon rolls or something else baked fresh from the oven and a cup of coffee. She and Art enjoyed many bus tour trips around the United States and Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; a daughter, Linda Domme; two grandsons, Reg Lawrence and Kent Williams; one sister, Patsy Czyzeski; and one brother, Dixie Jennings.

Survivors include three sons, Rick and his wife, Earline, of Jordan, Ron and his wife, Jeri, of Seymour, Texas, and Brent of Spearman, Texas; one daughter, Bonnie Williams, and her husband, Dick, of Cody, Wyo.; one brother-in-law, Cap Czyzeski; two sisters-in-law, Trixie Floyd and Dolly Lawrence; seven grandchildren, Ronda Thompson and her husband, Trey, Rusty and Randy Lawrence, Rod Lawrence and his wife, Beth, Josh Domme and his wife, Heidi, Raena Cleveland and her husband, Josh, and Kyle Williams and his wife, Anna, and 15 great-grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews.
