They Are The Young Americans

Second graders lined a classroom dressed in costumes that fit characters in history. Shortly after they pledged to the flag, parents, family members and others from the community visited 15 students who had worked on their characters for the last three weeks.

Denise Winchester invited the community to the classroom on Tuesday, March 11, for the Living History Museum. She explained that she's done this for the community in previous years and has found that the students really enjoy taking part in it.

"They looked up the facts, wrote them down and edited them before today," Winchester said.

While the students were only required to memorize and recite five facts for the Living History Museum, many of them memorized many more. The group of students are part of a challenge group that do a lot of writing throughout the year. They were allowed to pick their own characters from the past, with only one requirement that they had made a positive impact in history.

Winchester explained that this year a student was related to her character in history. Elle Stone had ties to Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Students were Eve Stone (Sacajawea), K.J.Ingram (Abraham Lincoln), Leif Chappell (George Washington), Haley Stanley (Helen Keller), Joshua Belt (Orville Wright), Matthew Belt (Wilber Wright), Stone (Laura Ingalls Wilder), Jordan Cook (Martin Luther King), Trevor Fox (Alexander Graham Bell), Skyler Wesely (Jane Goodall), Tanner White (William Clark), Ryleigh Plovanic (Paul Revere), Tatum Nyquist (Harriet Tubman), James Seekins (Jackson Pollock) and Jack Kolstad (LeBron James).
