Lewis A. Magnan

Lewis A. Magnan, 63, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Poplar Community Hospital in Poplar, Mont.

A visitation service will be held Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Poplar Activity Center in Poplar.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Poplar Activity Center, followed by interment in the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar.

He was born on April 14, 1950, in Poplar, the son of Kirkwood Abbott and Mary E. Buckles. He lived most of his life in Poplar, attending school through the 11th grade. He then lived in Denver, Colo., where he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. After his discharge, he moved back to Poplar, working at various jobs. He was a "Jack of all Trades" and did all kinds of work.

He was married "Common Law" to Mary Lou Azure for 40 years. He met her on New Years Eve in 1974 and they have lived in Poplar since being discharged from the Army. He worked for the Fort Peck Tribes for 18 years before retiring for health reasons.

He was a carpenter, maintenance worker, and loved to learn new skills. He had the tendency to tease and was always joking and being humorous. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to elk hunt with the boys at Fort Peck. He lived for his children, they never wanted for anything. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved them dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Azure, of Poplar; his parents, Kirkwood Abbott and Mary E. Buckles; three sons, Lewis P. Magnan of Poplar, David W. Magnan of Missoula, and Jonathan A. Magnan and his wife, Lori Jo, of Poplar; a daughter, Idalynn Magnan~Fast Horse Jr.; three brothers, Donald Buckles and his wife, Carol, of Wyoming, Muffy Magnan and his wife, Eva, of Wyoming, and Robbie Magnan and his wife, Jodi, of Poplar; three sisters, Lavren Bankston and her husband, Sam, of Denver, Suzette Doyle and her husband, Bernie, of California, and Candace Lopez and her husband, Jonnie, of Utah.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
