Another Win For Girls XC At Malta

Boys Take Second

It was another great weekend for the Scotties cross country teams at the Malta Invitational on Sept. 14. The boys took second place while the girls dominated their race to finish in first.

With 81 points, the boys’ team finished behind Culbertson/Bainville (73) and in front of Havre (96). Bridger Sanders was the fastest boy for the Scotties. He earned eighth place in 18 minutes and 42 seconds. Walker Allen was two seconds behind in 18 minutes and 44 seconds, and placed ninth. Matthew Phillips completed the Scotties podium in 19 minutes and 21 seconds. He finished 16th overall.

“We did pretty good,” Bridger Sanders said. “Walker Allen and I were pretty much together the entire race, neck and neck, and at the end I pushed a little harder. We are always pushing hard to get our times down and I look forward to state because of that.”

The Scotties girls finished in first place and dominated the meet with 28 points, in front of Havre (50) and Malta (83). All seven runners placed in the top 15.

Junior Josie Braaten displayed a great performance once again, finishing the race in 19 minutes and 25 seconds to take first place. The second fastest girl for the Scotties was Rachel Zeiger. She earned third place in 21 minutes and three seconds. Amanda Wolff took fifth place in 21 minutes and 17 seconds. She was the third best runner for the Scotties.

“The meet was really good,” Josie Braaten said. “We got some good competition from Malta and Havre, and all around it was a pretty good run … Now, we need to work on finishing the race harder, with more speed. We are working on that at practice.”

The Scotties will hit the road for the Frazer Invitational this Thursday, Sept. 19.
