Reds Road Show Ready To Begin

Conference Champion Glasgow To Play Patriots

On to Billings.

The Glasgow Reds – league champs and top-seeded in the American Legion Eastern A District Tournament – continue their pursuit of the state title at 10 a.m. Thursday with their postseason opener against the eighth-seeded Richland County Patriots.

The Reds, 44-7 on the season and 22-6 in Eastern A, claimed their conference impressively July 18 after learning the tournament was being moved from their Bob Connors Field to Billings due to concerns about the outfield’s condition due to past flooding. They dismantled the second place Billings Cardinals, 16-0, in the clincher and beat them again for good measure in the nightcap, 6-3.

Righthander Keil Krumwiede threw a three-hit, five inning shutout at the Cards in the opener. Jason Thibault and Wacy Ortman each went 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored to lead the balanced onslaught.

In the second game, Andy Gardner went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Reds. Switching to the mound, righty Thibault picked up the win after giving up two runs and four hits over six innings. Tom Leland kept Billings hitless in the seventh for the regular-season ending save.

If the Reds defeat Richland County on Thursday at Pirtz Field, they move on in the winners bracket and at 4 p.m. Friday face the victor of the game between No. 4 Billings Blue Jays and No. 5 Lewistown Redbirds. But if the Reds lose Thursday, they meet the loser of the other game at 10 a.m. Friday in the losers bracket.

The championship game is Sunday, and two teams will advance to state.
